Encoders (Types)

An encoder can be one of many things, a device, person, circuit, algorithm, software program or transducer that converts information from one code or format to another for the purposes of saving space, standardisation, security, secrecy or speed by shrinking size.

Some examples of Encoders

Epic Security

Media Examples

Compressors - these encode images, audio and video in to smaller file sizes.

Audio Encoder - these are capable of capturing, converting and compressing audio.

Video Encoder - These are capable of capturing both video and audio, they can also convert and compress the video / audio

Email Encoder - used to secure email addresses from harvesters online

PHTML Encoder - this makes script code logic invisible to visitors of a web site but keeps the scrip code logic preserved

Job Roles

Data Entry Encoders - Enter coded information from phone surveys in to a database, they may also enter payment amounts in to a database (from legal tender)

Manual Encoders - These people scan missed baggage tags that were not scanned by the system, they scan them manually by hand

Security

A person or device that encrypts or encodes military messages like the Enigma Device from WWII or the ADFGVX Cipher that was found in WWI

Medical Software

EncoderPro - searches HCPCS Level II and ICD-9-CM, CPT medical codes, to allow ease of auditing and increase accuracy

There are many more different encoders available and they all have very different purposes, software encoders are used quite a lot throughout the UK for a number of applications. Have a look online to find out a bit more about Encoders.
